Exploring Paris: A Review of Hotel Korner Sorbonne

On my most recent trip to Paris, I had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Korner Sorbonne, a charming hotel known for its budget-friendly accommodations. With its prime location in the Latin Quarter, delightful room design, and affordability, it appealed to me as a solo female traveler eager to explore the City of Light.

From Hotel Diana Paris to Hotel Korner Sorbonne

While searching for budget hotels in Paris, you may have come across numerous recommendations for the once-popular Hotel Diana Paris. A favorite of Rick Steves and many of his readers, this family-run hotel was well-loved. When the owner retired, the property was acquired by a smaller local hotel group, Hotel Korner, which now boasts several locations throughout Paris. Among them, Hotel Korner Sorbonne stands out for its superb location.

Though it was previously a two-star establishment, upgrades have allowed Hotel Korner Sorbonne to present itself as a three-star hotel, offering enhanced amenities and comfort.

Location of Hotel Korner Sorbonne

Hotel Korner Sorbonne is nestled in the vibrant Latin Quarter on the Left Bank of the Seine, with a host of attractions in close proximity. Just a couple of blocks away lies the Musée de Cluny, as well as the iconic Shakespeare and Company bookstore. Notable landmarks like Notre Dame and the lush Jardin du Luxembourg are easily reachable within a short walk.

This area feels particularly safe for solo female travelers, with well-lit streets bustling with locals. During my early morning departure at 6:30 am to catch a tour bus to the Loire Valley, I felt reassured seeing joggers and commuters out and about.

The Saint-Michel – Notre-Dame RER train station is only a five-minute walk away, making it convenient for travelers heading to or from Charles de Gaulle Airport. The station’s north entrance on Rue Xavier Privas features an elevator directly to the train tracks, which is quite handy. Additionally, metro stops are nearby, and several bus routes service the area, ensuring excellent connectivity to the entire city.

My Room Experience

As a solo female traveler, I opted for the “chambre simple,” the most affordable option at Hotel Korner Sorbonne. This cozy room, suitable for a single guest, included a wide bed, a desk with a chair, bedside table, closet space, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Rue Saint Jacques.

My air-conditioned accommodation came with a private bathroom that featured a toilet, sink, and a deep bathtub with a glass shower partition. Although it was slightly cramped, especially when attempting to open both the bathroom and shower doors, it was certainly spacious enough for my needs.

The hotel offers a small elevator and 24/7 reception, along with complimentary coffee, tea, and croissants in the lobby — a lovely touch for budget travelers! Hotel Korner Sorbonne also features larger rooms for those who need more space.

Breakfast at Hotel Korner Sorbonne

I chose a room rate that didn’t include breakfast, knowing I had early departures on several days. However, on my final morning, I decided to indulge in the hotel’s breakfast buffet, which cost €15. This delightful spread featured fresh baguettes, butter, jams, cheeses, cold cuts, hard-boiled eggs, pastries, yogurt, fruit, coffee, tea, and juice. It was a satisfying meal that kept me fueled until lunchtime on my flight.

Would I Recommend Hotel Korner Sorbonne?

Absolutely! I wholeheartedly recommend Hotel Korner Sorbonne to fellow travelers in search of an affordable yet centrally located hotel. The hotel’s position in the heart of the Latin Quarter provides easy access to numerous attractions and convenient transport options around the city.

This trip marked my first solo experience on the Left Bank, and I savored every moment, including the view from my hotel room and leisurely strolls along the Seine after dinner.
